Metal Halide startup question

i just setup a brand new 175 w mh light.

When i plug it in the outlet the bulb glows blue for maybe 2-3 seconds then goes out. What does this mean?

Do you have the double ended MH or the Single Ended screw-in type? Use the power switch to start up the bubs, not the outlet.

I have the SE screw in type. My setup does not have a power switch.

i'm going to try a new bulb first.
