Pondering on getting a Zero Edge aquarium

Any one have experience and/or opinions on the setup? I was thinking about pairing it up with some Solaris lights. I know they're pricey but I really like how clean they look.

I saw a couple zerop edge aquariums at MACNA this year and they looked totally awesome.

Wonder if you u will have to scrape both sides of the acrylic?

I think the idea is very innovative but not too practical for serious reef-keeping.

You will be restricted as to what equipment you could put in the tank and still be able to achieve the clean look.

That's true about limiting my equipment, but that might be a good thing. If I figure on all of the equipment that's come and gone in my 90 gallon, I probably could have bought the zero edge with solaris already.

As far as keeping corals/fish, I'm more after the look of the overall tank vs. what I stick in it. I'd be happy with some nice softies/clams/easy fish as long as the tank looks good.

I'll hit up on invisible to get his opinion on it.

i saw one at a store out here and was blown away. they are so nice and clean like you said. as long as you keep things that don't require a ton of maintenance, it should be fine.

if you have the money, go for it. i would if i could

Can't have much flow in the tank, otherwise you break the surface tension. Once that happens the tank is no longer viewable from the top.

Other then that, I think they are awsome!!!

Yeah, no SPS for sure. I don't think you'd have problems with algae as long as you watch your feeding and lighting.

I never thought about the amount of flow vs. surface tension though. You have a point about the view from the top if there is too much surface flow.

these kind of tank only work in Texas since they don't have no earth quake that's why if you follow the build thread most owner are from Texas beside the manefacture are close to them so shipping will not be expensive. Here in Cali small trimmer then u looking at 30 gal on your floor probably fry all of your pump cause a fire and then you will have a rimless home....:-)

I just got a 36x24x24 rimless and Im stoked on it! I drilled the back panel for a closed loop that will be running a dart with a om 4way! I also did a horzontal overflow so I could use up all the bottom space for aquascaping!!!

Those Zero Edge tanks seem like a real waste to me. What is the cool part about it? Water flowing over the top?

Way cooler would be a large donut shaped aquarium. You can stand inside the donut and get a 360-degree view!

How would you get inside the donut? lol
I've always thought the zero edge aquariums were pretty cool but a pain to clean, light, and add flow. Maybe if it was just a clam tank then it'd be fine.
They're also too rich for my blood.

Zero Edge is nice IF you have the proper location and able to dedicate the time to keep it looking prestine. Just imagine having coraline and any other algae on the outside of the tank. Personally, I don't think its worth the money.

DIY you can get a shallow rimless from glass cages have the bottom drilled, and build a catch tray I would say the hardest thing to do is getting it level.

for lighting Im going with a single 250 mh in a l3 with 4x39w t5's! I built a matching hood to hang over the tank. looks like a canopy but is really a big pendant!!!

I just realized we are talking zero edge not rimless/braceless!!! lol
