New liverock...new aptasia Now with PicTure!

Ok, help please. I just bought a sweet new piece of live rock, came with polyps on it, it's nearly entirely purple, about a 7 pound piece. Well, that came at a price. Apparently it's got about I'd guess 5 aptasia I can see. One is uncomfortably close to a polyp colony, (i can see them being pushed away from it).

Is there any way to kill these things fast without a syringe, chemicals, or chalk?!

I blast mine with strong kalk water. Get some Mrs. Wages pickling lime, mix it up strong, and squirt it on the aptasia.

I haven't had any real close to any corals, but it is possible you may lost a polyp or two. They will grow back.

Pepermint shrimp. I put one in my 10 and he had all the Aiptasia gone in a week. He's been a model citizen and hasn't touched any of my corals since the Aiptasia ran out.

Thanks guys. I ended up covering the one close to the polyps with the glue, seems to of put an end to him

However, plenty more have opened up now... I think I'm going to manually kill the big ones, and get some pep shrimp for tiny ones.

Oh, I found another coral on it, it's a purple mushroom. So, this piece of live rock came with 3 different kinds of coral on it. Polyps (maybe zoas actually), some unknown that i'll figure out later, and now a mushroom. Awesome, it's about the size of a dime too.

Sounds like a nice score. Aiptasia can be a pain to some but for me it went away pretty easily.

Yeah, LFS, I got it for 6 dollars a pound. It was a pretty unique piece though, I think someone traded it in to get rid of the aiptasia.

Another question though, I hit one of the big ones with some glue, and it's stem is still hanging there. Should I be removing the stem? Or what? (i think i am going to go shopping for some joe's juice tonight or tomorrow)

Ok another quick question.

These aiptasia are in tank with no occupants right now. Since I'm not feeding the tank, is it possible if I do a lot of water changes, ext that the aiptasia could starve to death?

Joe's juice didn't work for me. It is clumpy and when I get a good dose on the aptasia, it goes away for a couple weeks and comes right back. I've had the best luck with a thick slurry of pickling lime.

Entomb those suckers with super glue, it works great on the larger ones! I've just bought 5 peppermint shrimp for the smaller aps, we'll see how that works out.

I have tried Joe's Juice (on my anemones, have not drank any to date), and it seemed to work okay, but alot of them came back later. The best cure I know of is a copper banded butterflyfish. Mine ate all of the apistasia, big and small. It started nipping at some LPS afterwards though, so I moved him to my frag tank. If any come back, I will just place the rock in the frag tank for a day and let him go to work on it. This is working great for me.
