Need Suggestions Please!
Hi guys, I have a 100 gallon FOWL with 55gal sump/octopus skimmer and it currently has a nice Australian Harlequin Tusk, Dogface Puffer and five small yellowtail blue damsels.
I am looking for ONE more fish...nice darker blue/purple etc colors to complete this tank. I tried a Niger Trigger but he was too big and he nipped the tusk way too much for us so we took him back. Maybe if he was smaller he wouldn't be so aggressive but a trigger is a trigger is a trigger in the end I guess. Great contrasting color and loved how he looked, too bad it didn't work. I would like some good ideas from people who know fish as to what would be a good third big fish for this tank. The tusk is king but leaves everyone alone other than being aggressive during feeding time(getting his food, not bothering other fish)...otherwise he leaves the other fish alone totally. The puffer is smaller and nice...all he cares about is me. The damsels are tiny so they won't be an issue with a bigger fish. Anyone have any good ideas for one more addition? Imperator Angel would require spirulina and other types of food but is very nice looking. What about some tangs? Any good ideas for tangs doing well in this tank? I have no other ideas and am here looking for some good ones. Please help me narrow down my search for the perfect tankmate. I would really appreciate it! Snaus |

A kole tang, purple, yellow, tomini or even a chevron might do well.

you could get an imperator, it will eat what you are probably feeding now......

I would add a tang, that would round out your tank nicely. Thor gave a good list. You will have to feed nori/veggie type food though.

I ended up buying a really great looking 3" Yellow Tang. It has awesome color and is very healthy and the perfect size for this community. There were others that were paler in color so I was able to see how rich the yellow color was. He's perfect in fins/health. They tried to sell me another one that had only been there a week or so. Then I saw this guy and asked for him and she seemed almost dissappointed that I picked him saying "Oh he's been with us for a couple months now." He was much more rich yellow than the paler, almost whitish ones she was trying to sell me.
I know some people would consider yellow tangs "boring" or "common" but the tank just needed that pop of color. The yellow will be awesome with the yellow tail blue damsels around. Purple tang wouldn't work with them as well. Having a yellow tang also screams SALTWATER TANK HERE! to those that don't follow the hobby. So a month in the QT and he'll be ready. I got some Seaweed/spirulina flat dry paper-like food and a clip to clip it in so he can graze. He's been grazing like crazy and seems very happy so far. Thanks for the help. If you wondered about a name I've named him Hoss. |
