Everyone says to spray Krylon Fusion on Acrylic. For glass, I just used latex paint and rolled it on. Seems pointless to me to take the tank outside and spray it when you can just roll it on inside.

I've used the krylon fusion on several glass tanks without issue

There are a lot of things that will work.I used flat black latex Rustoleum Paint. Did three coats with one of the small rollers.

Buy a couple different plastic backgrounds before deciding on a color. You may end up painting it blue or black and then realize... I hate that. A few bucks up front may save a headache a little later.

When I was trying to figure this out, a lot of people swore that the best way to go was Krylon Fusion on a glass tank. That just didn't make sense to me to buy expensive paint meant for acrylic then put it on glass. There is no benefit. I bought one can of flat black spray paint for $0.96 and it worked great! Not that this is the only method that will work, or even that it is the best...but it worked well enough for me, it was cheap, and since the back of the tank is against a wall and won't be bumped frequently, it won't matter how easy it scratches, because it won't be.

I used rustoleum "Painters touch" paint which costs like $2 and spray painted it onto the back after taping off the tank. It worked GREAT... and got amazing coverage. And you get this sweet shiny black mirrored finish on the outside of the tank, but a flat black look inside

I used the same stuff. Got rushed and wish I had had time to do a couple more coats.

Badazztealcobra (sp?) told me about vinyl from a sign making shop in Villa park and I found another next door to advanced aquatics. I have used several paints including Krylon fusion, I have also taped on backgrounds and did the Vasaline method. by far the best was the sheet vinyl. A spray bottle with a couple drops of soap in the water, a squeege bought at the sign shop, a razor, and $10-20 worth of the vinyl. 20 minutes a semi-permanant ( I could pull it off but it wont come off on is own) smooth bckground is on. I wont do a tank any other way. The black with the black overflows is way cool looking

vinyl is cleaner no overspray or masking. it is up dry and you can do plumbing or anything else to the tank in 20 minutes or less. including setting it in place. and should you ever want to change colors peel and go
