lighting question for my 75 gal reef
hello..I have a question reguarding my lighting...I currently use a 48" aqualight pro that has two 150w MH with actinics and moonlights..the halides are coralife 10,000k bulbs. does anyone have any suggestions that would make my light even better, brighter?....I really like my light but I am wondering if there is a way to get even more out of it. any suggestions welcome...

Move to 250 watt halide bulbs. Or add a t-5 lighting fixture.

You can move to a 250 watt light if your ballast is rated for it. The T-5 reqiures a new fixture. Talk to your LFS. Brighter lights for your system might light shock your corals. Your tank is only a 75 gal system. If your livestock is doing okay, leave well enough alone. From the picture you posted your corals look good. Remember to replace bulbs evey 6-8 mos. Maybe your ballast can take up to 175 watt bulbs, this would be okay for your corals.

remove the glass lids and lower the fixture a little, I have 3x150 on my tank and its plenty of light. Unless your growing sps, then you would have to keep them under the bulbs and higher. but for the most part the lps and sps 2x150 is good choice. but first you gotta git rid of the tank cover.

also 150 and 250 sockets are different sizes. and ballasts are specific for one or the other as far as watts, ie 150 -150 ,175-175 etc
also get a better mh bulb to run in your fixture...check here http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/ |
