Be really careful about drilling the bottom of that tank. If the glass is tempered it's a major risk. Find out before you drill.

I'm sure other people will chime in, but I'm pretty sure you can't drill the bottom of AGA aquariums as they are tempered glass. As soon as you try to drill the bottom it will shatter.

You could, however, drill near the bottom of the back pane of glass (assuming that isn't tempered... they usually aren't, but don't quote me). In that case, you would probably want to be a good 2" or more from the bottom/side.

Rule of thumb I've heard is no closer to an edge or another hole than the diameter of the bit you're drilling with.

Here's a great thread on drilling. I think it should at least the size of the hole away from any edge (1" hole, 1" from all edges).

also you must be far enough away that your bulkhead has room to seat well with no interuption by way of existing silicone.

I have always gone by 2x the diamater of the hole from the edge.

1" hole is 2" from the edge/1.5" hole is 3" from the edge.
