OT: drinking in public ticket....

i cant believe that i'd be a person to get it, but sure enough, i got one last night in hollywood.

it is a misdemeanor

has anyone ever gotten one? can i go to court and ask the judge to bring it down to an infraction?

i'm goin into the medical field and i dont wanna have to check the yes box in applications for "have u ever been convicted of a misdemeanor"

please give me some advice, it'll be greatly appreciated!

IIRC, they can't ask you about a misdemeanor, you will probably be asked by the da to plee guilty to disorderly conduct.. orrrrr, you can pay thousands to a lawyer and FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT

I'm sure the cops can't tell beer from coke inside a pepsi bottle. I think you mean pepsi can.

And seriously, why would you be parading outside with an alcohol visible? Even the bums know to use a brown paper bag and tuck it under the jacket.

just show up in court, the judge will give you all your options. The court is too busy to deal with a drinkin in public case. You probably end up paying fine on a infaction. Tf it's still a misdemeanor just waited for a few years and ask the record to be clear/block from public access.

Thats what happens when people try to be celebrities in Hollyweird. We can't get away with that kind of stuff.

When you go to court, talk to the prosecutor before the court calls your case. Explain to he/she that you have a clean record and have never been convicted for this offense, or any other misdemeanor, in the past. If the prosecutor doesn't budge, you may want to offer community service in exchange for an infraction, and explain that you can't afford to plea to a misdemeanor due to your employment. If this doesn't work, then make the same statements to the judge. If all fails, you can always get an expungement down the road.

I'm pretty sure on the medical school application if you check the box you then have to explain the reason for it. This doesn't seem too serious. In the end, if for some reason you can't get it off your record I don't think it'll hurt your chances to get into medical school. You could always ask your school counselor for advice.

It's not that bad but some career choices and those employers expect you to have better judgement/action than the average person.

But then I'm sure you already know that (now).

Me and 3 friends got a drinking in public tickets when I was 20 (7 years ago). Its not a big deal. Just go to court. You'll have to pay a fine. I think mine was $75 and thats it. Just dont do it again. I learned my lesson.

The judge did crack a few jokes at our exspense and the people in the court room laughed. It was pretty funny.

If you have really bad luck(like my neighbor) you'll end with a judge in recovery who'll send you to AA meetings and hit you with probation, and of course you'll owe the attorney fees and any court fees.
