they are called Black and White Heniochus, they also go by Banner fish. As you can see by the long fin. They are also in the Butterfly family, so be careful in you have any SPS or other corals.

No it's not that they get big but he is a free swimming fish as opposed to a goby or similar fish that just kind sits around and is not constantly moving. It's like he's locked in a tiny prison cell.

just my 2 cents

I guess "Big" is a relative term I've seen'em at about 9"-10"

IMO min 55g @ 4'long or a 135 @ 6'long would be fine till he got 5"-6" then you gotta go w/ a big tank 300g+

But thats just me.

Heniochus diphreutes & H. acuminatus. I personally don't know the difference. For clarification, can you guys describe the differences (physically)? The WetWebMedia pics look IDENTICAL to me

I would say from the less steeply sloped forhead of the fish and the anal fin being straight down (acuminatus have a much more pointed anal fin), I would say with a pretty high certainty that you have an dipreatus, not an accuminatus. It is still pretty young and it can be hard to tell for sure at a small size but I would bet you it is a diphreatus.

I was just looking through the fishbase pics, and I swear some of those must be interchanged accidentally....just look at the more or less pronounced snout....

The black band that runs through the anal fin helps us to identify.

H. acuminatus

H. diphreutes

Look at the black & white parts of the anal fin. Its %50 white - %50 black for H. diphreutes. However, in acuminatus its %60 white - %40 black.

The angle of the black band also helps.

The band is continious in H. acuminatus

It has a break in H. diphreutes

Angel7989's fish has a continious black band and the anal fin is not half black.

If you check more photos of these fish through internet and look into these two details, you will understand the difference much easier.

Thanks!

That 10% difference is sooo much easier to see when they are preserved specimens right next to each other All LFS should keep some on hand
