does a uv light help control ick on fish or just help rid the tank ? I guess my question is if a fish has ick will a uv light help get rid of it?

UV will only kill what passes through it. So only ich in the free floating stage will be killed. However, I would assume that ich is relatively short lived and has a fast (few days) life cycle on a fish. So I would imagine that with UV you would fish kill all of the free floating ich and then what ever is on the fish would die off in a few days and not be replenished with new ich.

However, there are two major assumptions I'm making. One is that the UV unit is properly sized and properly installed (flow rate etc). Ich is pretty hard to kill with UV (unlike algae and bacteria) so a pretty hefty unit would be required. Others may have more experience here but these are just thoughts.
