Treating Red Bugs
It here a good article on the treatment of a reef tank using Interceptor. I have a 120 that needs to be treated.
Thanks

Crabbs, shrimps and hermites
Aside from netting, is there a good way to capture my hernits in a trap or some other type of device?
I can keep them stored ina separate container until the treatment is done. I assume the treatment includes my sump and refugium? Thanks

If you are treating your system, you need to treat everything including sump, skimmers, calc reactors, eyc. So basically anything that has your tyank water run through it. From my recent readings on this, and also recent treatment I have read that some people take there fuges offline durring treatment.
I opted to remove all acros/SPS and treat in a sperate tank. I am trying this first so I dont take the hit on pods, snails, and hermits etc. Also it was checper to treat a 29 gallon tank versus a 300+ gallon system. HTH

My Refugium
Do I toss my Cheato outor let it get treated with the rest of the system?

I have found that treating a reef tank w/ chemical/medications is usually disasterous. Look for a natural solution. Mandrins will remove flatworms and many other coral parasites.

I disagree on the above for red bugs. You might have an issue here or there but it won't be anywhere near a disaster. If you have small and not many colonies, you could treat outside. But most don't have a seperate setup plus a seperate lighting as well.

Then, take the funnel piece you have just cut off, invert it, and shove it back into the body of the bottle. You should then have a concave funnel as the top of the bottle with the little screw-top at the base pointing into the bottle. This makes an excellent trap for crabs, etc., when baited with some smelly food like squid.

It doesn't affect them one bit.

Hi Jay24k..
Thanks for your reply... Then... I can use Interceptor in my full setup without a problem... my goal is eliminate the red bugs and maybe some unwanted crabs that affected my Acroporas.. Thanks. Victor H. |
