new tank pics

The tank has not been plumbed yet, here are a few pics of it. I have started to aquascape. Next steps are plumb, water, and live rock.

What will the pieces of lighting material attached to the wall be for? Going to mount LR to it or what? Guess I understand why on the bottom but, not so much upwards.

Thanks for the comments.

The eggcrate is just to provide more water flow through the back of the rocks helping with detritus(sp), and to provide support to the LR. I'm going to use marine epoxy to secure the LR to the eggcrate. I have an extra sheet of acrylic behind the eggcrate so I dont get the marine epoxy on the tank itself (it probably would not come off). I used Great Stuff to adhere the sheet of acrylic to the tank, and the eggcrate. Great stuff will come off of acrylic. I did some tests to make sure.

My tank is 18 inches deep in the center but only 12 inches deep on the sides. In order to make the most of the space, I decided to stack my rocks with more height than width. I'm rookie at this, so we will see how things go.

Mark

be sure to make use of the bottom footprint of the tank also, just dont stack so high that you leave no room for grow out.....this is commonly looked over on new setups.....just my thoughts.

I am going to try to do a step up of rocks to the top back. I ultimately want to have different depths to place coral.

Looks like a great start. What kinds of fish and corals are you going to try?

where did you get your ideas for aquascaping? It looks great! Also, where did you get your LR?

Currently I have a 6 line wrasse, and a lawnmower blenny in quarantine. I would like to get a blue hippo tang, and 2 clowns as well. As far as corals go I will start with some soft corals like zoos, and mushrooms, and then when I get better at this some sps. I would also like some clams. I'm just looking for colorful life.

I got some aquascaping tips from a book called The Reef Aquarium, art, science, and technology by Julian Sprung...it’s a great book.

The LR is from a wholesaler in LA. I have a friend that has his own tank maintenance business, so he hooked me up. There is about 190lbs in there.

Thanks for all the comments.

Here is my tank at 5 weeks. In the tank I have:

pair clowns
2 fire shrimp
2 cleaner shrimp
snails/hermits
sea hare
brittle star

So far the tank is going good. I had some problems with my quarantine tank in the beginning and lost some fish.

Here are some new pics.....sorry for the pic quality I need a new camera.

new sea hare
