rr or not?

is there a difference in your tank between over the tank overflow and in the tank overflow? i have a 125 just sitting in the garage, not rr,but i'm looking into getting a 210 or 260. now, with any one of these tanks, over the top overflow will have that part of the overflow that hangs into the tank.and with a rr tank, you have an even bigger black box sitting in your tank, whether its in each corner or in the middle back of the tank.
Is there really a difference, besides looks, in how the different overflows work in keeping the tank clean

The difference between the two is the siphon overflow is prone to lose it's siphon............so they say. I have been using siphon overflows for a good twelve years and have yet had this to happen- even when the power goes out, it starts all by itself when the power comes back on. Then your gonna hear that they can flood your house once again, this has never happened to me because if you leave enough room in the sump for the volume of back siphon- your covered either way.
I've seen "that's what the pro's use" in reference to drilled tanks and overflows here at RC . IMO it's personal preference. T

thanks LU359TINMAN----i am using the tidepool sump with the tidepool overflow----have not had a problem at all, yes, i do hear some water noise, but my tanks in the basement--so any noise they doesnt bother me, and your right, as long as the sump is properly filled, if the overflow fails, there should be no flood--

I have a tidepool too, the weir is a lot better compared to the standard U-tube. You should be able to eliminate the noise by adjusting the little clear pipe on the main standpipe up or down, unless your referring to the sump side. I use a filter sock to quiet that side down. T
