Zoa eating starfish lookin creature?
Hey guys,
I bought this multi color zoa rock a few weeks back from an LFS store. I brought it home and acclimated it, and put it in my tank and it looked awesome. Then I started noticing that it was dying off and I didnt know why. Right amount of flow and light, but it was still receding. Today I fresh dipped it and a couple of tiny starfish-looking creatures fell off the coral. Any ideas what these are? They've since been removed from the coral, and I hope that was the cause of them dying off, but what the heck are these things? They seemed to live in the zoa rock, or inbetween the zoas... I had the same problem. I know saying this is gonna cause a huge debate but my problem was asterina stars. I had them in my tank for a while, ton of them. I guess after a while they got a taste for my zoanthids. I dont know if they were eating them or just staying on them, causing them not to open but they were doing something. I got a pair of Harlequin shrimp(only eat starfish) and they cleaned house. My zoas did a 180 and have been good ever since.

Asterina's have been munching on my yellow polyps for some now...What for years was a beautiful colony has been decimated to just a few.
I keep dragging the little devils out when they get on the glass. The planter next to the tank is full of them. Have even gone so far as to get a pair of Harlequins in the hope they will eat them for appetizers. Their population seems to ebb and flow --- for a long time I will only see one or two...the the population explodes again and I am dragging them out daily. Mine look like:

No, they didnt have any webbing between their legs. They looked almost like bristle worms or bristle stars, but very very tiny (about the size of an eraser head? Black and white striped legs, 5 legs, no webbing between them.
I'd take a picture or two of them, but my digital camera is taking a ride in a cab somewhere in vegas
