I first saw these in Leonardo's Reef tank. I didn't know they were readily availible in the US.

Any idea how much par the spot lights put out? They seem pretty far from the tank? You would think they would lose a lot of there intensity that far from the tank? Sorry if this has been answered before.

According to the laws of Physics using the Inverse Square Law... if i place the spotlight half closer than where you see it now, I would be gaining 1/4 back of the light intensity. I did purchase the stems for the spotlights, but they are too long and need to get them shortened some how. This would put the light distance halfway from the water surface.

Ed, if you're still interested in Cardinals check out Apogon parvulus, the Red Spot Cardinal. It's adult size is around 1.5" and they school very nicely. Unfortunately, they don't survive transshipment very well. I ordered 7 and only 1 survived the first few days - however, he is bullet proof. I'm tempted to order more but feel bad about the harsh mortality - nonetheless a school of 10 or so in my 60g would be SWEET.

They used to be very inexpensive ($5-$10) but due to increased interest they are now a little more expensive ($15-$20). Any of your local shops should be able to keep their eyes peeled, I know SDC had some a few months back. They are getting more popular in the States so it shouldn't be hard.

Tank looks great! The side shot really shows all the open space. Do you have a pic of how the tank looks in the room its in? Just curious to see it placement.

I think you can definitely find that many red spots, getting decent numbers to survive the trip to your LFS or home is another story. That would be a helluva thing to see in an aquarium.

I just finished testing my water and everything is on target except Mg as it should be. I love this Schuran Jestream 2 as it has kept my alk levels stable for a few months now. I didnt have to use a perstaltic pump either. The flow is consistent.

Water parameters:

S.G.: 1.025
Temp: 79 F
Ca: 520
Alk: 12.5
Mg: 1450 (need to raise this back up to 1500+). It lowered because of the many water changes I made without supplementing Mg as I normally would to the WC.

Im also thinking about dosing limewater in order to purifer the water. This changes the water chemistry, but has anyone used limewater to clean the air from C02 converting it to 02 stabilizing tank PH? I would think this would be helpful at the skimmer level where the air is sucked into the pumps where air collides with water creating a fine water chemical balance.
