clam

My clam buried himself pretty deep into the sand, and he's getting sand blown on top of him. He shoots some sand out every once in a while. Is this a problem, or should just i leave hime alone. I was thinking about moving him to the rock somewhere.

If it's crocea, definately place it up high on a rock. Maxima can live on top of the sand, but not burried, so I'd still place it up on a rock.

Scott, if its one that you got from me, It appears that it may have spawned in my trough, as I recently found one that put a foot down and attached itself to the eggcrate, Its presently about 1/2", chances are that there may be more in the system that I havnt seen yet......Les

ok one more question. After the clam puts a foot down and attaches to the rock is there any special way to move it? Does it hurt the clam to just yank it off?

Don't yank it off!!!

If you really, really need to move it, use a razor blade or sharp pair of scissors and cut the byssal threads from the substrate. You don't want to put any pressure on the clam, as it is possible to rip the byssal gland from the clam.
