The reefer I bought this from said that his dad helped hook him up to buy this coral. His parents do coral research or something, I am just so excited that I was able to buy it. This is a pic of the mother coral and I only got a 1/2" frag but just wait till it grows into this.

seller quote:
"This came from the Hawaii aquarium were Charles delbeek himself took care of these"

I have no idea who Charles delbeek is but I will in a few minutes.

Charles

He's a very well respected author (often co-authors with Sprung). Very cool assuming you're getting the truth. If not, still a fantastic looking coral.

I will keep the identity of the seller to myself as to not have everyone ask him for a frag but I think if he wants everyone to know he will probibly post. He does not sell this coral usually. I was lucky enough for him to break a small piece off by mistake while moving it in his tank.

i don't think that is even in the same ball park, this is some rare stuff as this is the first time I and many others have seen it. I may just have to contact Charles delbeek if I can and ask him.

Why is the ID so important? Isn't it enough that you know it's an acropora? This is kinda like all those ID threads in the Zoanthid forum.

If you really want to know the ID, spend some time here: http://whelk.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/coralsearch.php. I doubt it's as "rare" as you seem to want to think, and it does look kinda faked, but if it makes you happy, good for you....

if it does turn out to not be what is pictured here, I will post a pic of the frag I get so we can all see. The coral is under 20k MHs so keep that in mind

Man, I wouldn't get this excited yet. I'm sure it'll be nice but you're crazy if you think it's going to be that exact color in your tank and if it is, it probably won't be for long.

If it isn't photoshopped, it may appear completely different under your lighting to begin with. Then after a few months, it may change to something else.

Example:

Red lobo the day I purchased it:

On the bottom of my tank under T-5s, 3 months later:

Same lighting, same camera on the same setting. No photoshop.

The thing's doing fine. It's very healthy and extends feeders every time food hits the tank. It just changed on me.
