another DIY bulkhead Q?

I know all the parts needed to make them, just had a couple questions still. Wouldnt it be better to use a flattened gasket instead of the o-rings commonly used? i'm thinking there more contact with the rubber of the flatter shape? also what is everyones experience with them, do they hold up without leaking?
Thanks,
Sam

The o-ring flattens when you tighten the connection.
My experience with them is positive.

Well, glad to hear they have worked for you. I get that the rings do flatten some, especially if you screw down tight, I just assumed that if I used a thicker flat gasket I might get a better seal. Does that sound accurate?
