Clam Lighting Question

I have a 12gal nano-cube with modded lighting. I have 75w of pc lighting over the tank. Would this be sufficient for any type of clam? I would really like to get one. Thanks for the help.

BTW: I have already posted in the clam forum. I would just like to get a more diversified answer.

I'm not a clam expert by any means but my experience is that clams are happiest under MH's, especially croceas. Check out clams direct, they have a cool forum for clam lovers.

and the correct answer would be??

that your tanks to small to maintain a stable alk/CA level for clams.

Some clams could live on that much light, but get much too large for a 12 gallon. Squamosas and Derasas would probably be fine. Watch Calcium and Alkalinity like a hawk on a tank that small though.

This thread does a great job explaining light requirements for clams. I'd recommend everyone thinking about clams read this before buying one.

I agree with this. It'd be hard to maintain stability in a tank that small, unless you have an auto topoff system with kalk, or some other reliable way to keep calcium/alkalinity steady.

PC lighting is likely fine for derasa, squamosa or gigas. Good luck fitting any of those in a 12g tank, though.
