Torch is being choked off

My torch has had some sort of fungus or sponge deep within its branches since the day I bought it. About a year later now the fungus/sponge has finally reached the heads of the torch and is slowly choking the heads off until they finally die. I've tried scraping it off but its tough getting in between the branches. Has anyone had something similar to this happen to them? Should I try some sort of dip? Sorry I don't have a picture of what it looks like, its tough to get a shot inside the branches.

Havent had them but you could try to kill the sponge by puting some tank water in a container of some sort and try to float the coral some way that only the heads on the coral is in the water and the skeleton is exposed to the air. the air should kill the sponge pretty fast.
