Sumps/overflows for non-drilled nanos (also posted in nano tanks forum)
I'm having a dilemma that I was hoping someone could help me with. My tank is a 44 gal, but I assume someone has run into this same problem with their nano or other small tank. My tank is not drilled, and has been set up for almost 3 years. I am currently building a sump/refugium, and I've run into a snag on the overflow part. I've got my rockwork set up in a way that I don't have room for the normal overflow boxes that you see, so I'm looking for an alternative. I was planning on using a box that hung inside the tank, and was only big enough to hold a small powerhead. That box would pump water over the back of the tank and down to the sump. After some thought, I decided that wasn't a good idea, because if the power went out, the sump pump would pump water into to the tank faster than the overflow was pumping it into the sump. SO, someone gave me the idea of a durso standpipe sort of design that would hang outside the tank, and there would only be a U shaped section of pvc piping and elbows inside the tank that would act as the overflow. I don't have a drawing of this concept, but I'm hoping someone has already tried that and would understand my thinking.
Does anyone have any experience/suggestions with this? Thanks, Brad

Wow 30mini!!! I'm still trying to figure this thing out. That first one seemed to make sense, and then I saw where 100 other people started giving their ideas for a better system. I had no idea this was going to be so crazy.
Thanks for the links!!! Brad
