toadstool wilting

Hi guys, i got this coral on thursday and on the day it opened up and looked great but now it wont come out and looks awful. Do they have times of not extending their polyps and what conditions do they like? Do they like flow?
Thanks

I've got several leathers, 3 of which are toadstools. They're all in average flow (ok maybe a bit stronger than average lol. I got quite a bit of flow in my tanks).

But this is also very common for new corals. Give it a few days and it may open if the params are all right. What are your nitrates, sg, temp, pH, etc?

Also, sometimes leathers will shedd their skin, and right before they do so they look horrible for a couple days. I've got a devils hand (or something..idk what it is lol) that does this...looks crappy for a few days and then sheds and is bigger. But i've never seen my toads do this.

yep that is shedding.

Don't worry about it. It is fine and adapting to your tank.

yep definately a shedding Some of my inverts (like my cleaner shrimp) actually eat the shedding as it comes off, and i added a CB angel and it goes crazy when my devils hand sheds (or i should say "went" crazy, since its only shed one time since i added the CB lol )

I have the same issue as mentioned in the first post.

2 days ago I purchased two toadstools attached to the same small piece of rock. One (the larger one) opened for about an hour when I first put it in my tank, closed up, then hasn't opened at all since. The other one on the same small piece of rock (a much smaller one) is open and all polyps are fully extended without any issues.

How many days should I wait for this coral to open before getting worried?

well my yellow fiji leather just went over a week and just started opening this morning. Your toadstool should open w/in a few days...give it time and make sure your params are good

Yeah, when they are disturbed the tend to form a waxy, slimey layer that they will shed shortly thereafter. Perfectly normal.

Just leave it alone and make sure the params are right. It will come out in time.

Sounds like shedding to me as well. I have a Sarcophyton leather and somedays it will be retracted and wilted looking for the better part of the day and then open up fully and look great. it seems to be very touchy if I move or disturb it in any way. They can shed from time to time to cleanse themself and actually appreciate and need a bit of flow to help slough off the shedded skin. Leathers are notorious for shedding not long after being added to a new tank as they adjust from the stress of moving to a new tank and it's tank chemistry. After settling into the tank the shedding becomes less frequent in my experience. I have had my Sarcophyton for about 5 years and it has reproduced new colonies several times by dividing buds.

my white star toadstool acted the same way. When I first bought it for about a month, it sheded and know its polyps are out and it looks great! Once they are adjusted to there new surroundings they come out if it.

I did a lot of research on toadstools when I got mine and my conclusions is they are wierd... Mine shrivels up become green and look aweful very very often it does not like my tank. Now I have found a good spot for it and today I found it touching my zoos. Despite all my troubles with it, it has grown to 2-3 times the size it was 4months ago.
