400W MH Pendant

I just won this new lighting system from eBay. I'm so happy. I'm not sure if I should use 10K or 20K. Any suggestions?400W MH Pendant

umm, you plan on putting that on a nano? or you post in the wrong forum?

either way i would do a 20,000k bulb...then you won't need actinic supplimentation

Go which way you like better. I would go 10k plus actinics though. Although the 20k gives the bluer appearance, it doesn't give the actinic phosphors which actinic bulbs give off.

guess i should clearify. if you want only one pendant than i would do a 20,000k but if you plan on adding in a hood or want dawn/dusk i would do a 10,000k w/ some actinic supplementation then

That would work great with a 20k radium because I believe it's an HPS ballast (look at the bulb).

I just ordered the 20K Ushio about a half-hour ago, and then read the post, and saw your post Nano-Reefer. Good suggestion, but I had already ordered. I'll think about that for when I need to replace the bulb.

o crak, i would ask hellolights some questions before firing up that Ushio. The Ushio 20k already has an ignitor inside and was made to run on a standard ballast. The affects of running an ushio 20k with ignitor from an HPS ballast might be .....

Don't worry, hellolights will glady accept returns and u can get credit and go for a radium heck, u can't even be sure it's a HPS ballast since it says no bulb included. Maybe he was just using it as an example. Check inside the ballast case to see what kind of ballast it it. A regular ballast (good for 20k Ushios) should have 2 components. The core/coil and capacitator. An HPS ballast (better for radiums) should have a core/coil, capacitator, and igniotor.
