Looking to expand my movie library with war movies

Suggestions are appreciated...

Here's what I am thinking...

All Quiet on the Western Front
The Big Red 1
Platoon
We Were Soldiers
Saving Private Ryan
Full Metal Jacket
The Patriot
Casualties of War
Hamburger Hill
Bridge Over the River Kwai
Patton

What am I missing/forgetting?

For the record, my Maternal Grandfather was a Glider pilot who flew troops in on D-Day. He died of cancer when my Mother was only 16 years old. His military records were destroyed in a fire in the military building here in St. Louis many years ago and he would not talk about his time in the service. So, we know almost nothing about his time in the service despite my Mother, Aunt and I doing a LOT of research. All we know is he's got a TON of medals (fruit salad) and took a British made revolver off a German officer.

Glory - great movie.
Agree with Band of Brothers, very good.
Das Boot - simply the best sub movie ever, plus it makes on line in BeerFest really really good.
M*A*S*H
Apocalypse Now
Good Morning Vietnam
Braveheart

Welcome To Sarajevo, not an enjoyable movie but it is about war and it is very good.

Hero - Not sure if I would call it a war movie but it's a great movie.

The Last Of The Mohicans

Kelly's Heroes, maybe not great but it really is a classic.

The Dirty Dozen, same as above.

That's all I can think of for now.

Glory.
Gotta have a Civil War flick.

Semi War, not really but they film some great battle WWI scenes, and a favorite. . . The Stunt Man

Anytime Griss

Glory might be my fav, it just covers all aspects of a good movie. Might have been Danzel's best job.

Oh my. Looking at the list on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Best-War-Movies/lm/104JBQPSY4F26

And they have U-571 ahead of Das Boot.

Idiots I tell ya.

And it looks like I need to check out Three Kings, that seems to be on everybody's list.

"The Blue Max." A kind of cheesy 60's WWI dogfight movie, but it's the only one I can think of with the Red Baron in it...

Three Kings I felt was horrible. No need to see it.

Two that I haven't seen mentioned yet: Black Hawk Down and Enemy at the Gates.

Oh, one more: We Were Soldiers

Enemy at the Gates is a very good one
Technicaly it's not a war movie, but The Hunt for Red October, belongs in any collection of military films

The "Combat Series" from 60-66 was great! I would recommend adding all five seasons to your collection. Tough to beat Vic Morrow and Rick Jason...many, many WWII vets thought Combat to be the most realistic show on WWII.

Also, The Deer Hunter is a great Vietnam flick.

Lots of great ones already listed, and I feel the need to add Downfall. It rules.

I also prefer the Redux or directors cut of Apocalypse Now over the original release.
