How often should my lion fish eat?

I have a volitan lion fish and I heard you are only supposed to feed them a few times a week. The one I have eats everything, from silversides, to brine shrimp, to pellets. Is this bad for him because he eats every night when I feed the other fish. thanks for any input

You can't help but for the lion to eat food dropped in for other fish. If you spot feed the lion it's own type of food (silversides, chopped shrimp, scallop, krill, etc) then every two days is fine. If the lion is getting some pellets and brine, it won't fill him up enough to constitute a full meal.
You can also try feeding the lion on one side of the tank, while the others get fed at the opposite end. My lion would always go to one end of the tank when he knew it was dinner time.

I feed mine 2-3 times a week depending on the shape of his stomach & how much he ate at the last feeding. Once the stomach has returned to normal I wait another day to feed him.

Proper food selection is important and never feed any more than what will cause a slight bulge in the abdomen area.
Smaller bite sized chunks are better than large pieces.
Think of a McNugget compared to you and cut the lions food proportionate to its mouth.

Juveniles should be fed daily, pre-adults every other day and mature specimens, no more than 3x's a week.

Taking small amounts of food meant for other tankmates is easily digested and fine for your lion.

Krill needs to be soaked in a vitamin supplement; krill has very little nutrition alone.
