while those are nice, i don't think they are worth twice the price of a simple diy; most of my time was spent waiting for glue to dry.

I'd be interested in seeing an MJ-Mod . . . though that goes for just about any DYI projects. I'm quickly realizing how nice it would be to rig up an auto-topoff system.

Does anybody know what kind of flow the 1200 gets with the mod?

According to MJmods.com, the MJ900 will go from 230gph to 1,600gph and the MJ1200 will go from 295gph to 2,000gph with the modification.

You can buy kits directly from MJ mods at http://www.mjmods.com/ for a lot less. Most people I have seen just buy the shrouds.

i have 1 of the reefdom mods and it really does work...i think the 2000gph may be a little under what it really does....man it pushes a lot of water....it was worth every penny(i am not a do it yourself guy....ask my wife, she will attest to that)

I also like the Maxi-jet mod.... where you cut off the discharge and part of the "shroud" causing it to alternate the flow within your tank. every time power is cycled on and off. Awsome !!!

Anyone know where you can buy the parts locally like maybe a local boat hobby shop?

I would think a specialized Toy & Hobby Store like "The Toy Center" or "The Hobby Store", might have the Boat Prop, Stainless steel shaft, etc....

Kits like that look nice but like most I prefer the DIY mod because it works for the size and rocks scape of your tank.
After couple of trying, I realized that by reverse and cutting the slots closer to the propeller, the flow wider which is good for surface skimming, and not push too much of water forward that causes the sand blowing all around.
hope you get the best choice

me again JMBoehling, most local hobby shops carry propellers and different sizes and pitches as well as carbon tubes. Remember to pick the propeller's pitch that work with your tank size.

How much heat does a MJ 1200 put out? Right now I've got a sequence dart on a closed loop. My tank is in our living room and the dart puts out a noticable hum. Was thinking about ditching the dart/closed loop and trying out 2 MJ 1200's with the mods. I'm worried about heat though. No chiller and in the summer my tank has reached 84 degrees, i had to turn off the 250w halides.

It was mentioned on here to do a maxi jet mod at the next meeting are we still up for that? I really want to see this up close and personal. Maybe if we get enough folks interested in buying kits we can have maxijet project time.

I have two MJ 1200's and two MJ 600's in a 55 right now and I haven't had any problem with heat. During the summer, I highest I saw my tank get was 82 degrees, and it sits in front of a 8' x 10' window/patio door. During the summer, my apartment tends to be set ~78 degrees. I also don't have metal halides or a canopy so there's plenty of air flow over the top.

a mj 1200 with a propeller runs at less than 20 watts

i took a 1200 mod with a dumas large prop with the new bell shroud into atlantis tonight and marvin felt it was moving more water than a 6200. vince put it into his 600 gallon right next to a 6200 and he had his hand going back and forth, comparing them and he thought the same thing. it puts out a lot of flow, in a very wide pattern.

It definitely blew away the 6100 that Anthony placed it beside. Without having any proof I believe the one Twon had was pretty much equal to a 6200. Then again it is not controllable and costs about $400 less..... Just my initial impression and look forward to playing around with more.

Alright.. Let's set up a mini-meet for everyone interested in moding Maxijets. I would like to ask Anthony to be our "Mini-Meet Leader" and presenter Let's figure out how many are invloved and do a group purchase on all the components required. I will need to make (02) 1200 mods for my 90... Sounds like Angel is in... Anyone else?

Later,

Jim

I would love to see one in operation. It sounds like Anthony is "the man" to show how it's done DIY.
