Hopefully in Jan 07. I'm having a custom stand and canopy built and will be ready to go then. I'm just gathering equipment at this point - Have the following:

65 gal tank 36 x 18 x 24 - drilled with 1" bulkhead for overflow to sump, and 2 1" bulkheads for a closed loop and potiential spraybar in the back. What do you guys think of spraybars for circulation in the back? Do I need some direct flow in the back? I plan on using a 3/4" SeaSwirl for circulation in addition to T ing the return on the far left and right of the tank.

What kind of circulation in back of the Rockwork to you guys have?

2 x 250W metal halide retrofix kits with electronic ballasts from Hello Lights

Euroreef Skimmer

Southdown sand for a 3" sandbed when ready

Misc supplies from my old 30 gal long softie tank

That's it so far...Loving this thread to see so many successful 65 gal tanks!

Your setup sounds exciting clownfishman. I say the more flow you have, the better. It is good that you are planning ahead of time and looking at other setups. (very smart). This is what I did when setting up my new 225g. Adding a closed loop before the tank setup is excellent, this will illuminate the need for future ugly powerheads in the tank, taking up valuable space.
Good luck with this and keep us informed .
Brad

Is that Coraline forming or is it some type of worm attached to the glass?

i get white spots like that all over my powerheads and such. I believe that they are either a cal based algea or a small filter feeding organism like barnacles. Still not quite sure though.

The white spots are probably calcareous tube worms. I just set up my 65 and I am having a diatom outbreak....hopefully it will go away soon and I'll take pics.

Standard 65 gallon tank, no sump or refugium. 4 to 5 inch sandbed with about 100lbs of live rock. I have 2 seio 1500's going at full throttle. I'm not sure what I'm doing about lighting yet. For the time being I set my 2 x 36 watt PC lighting from my 20 on 1 side of the tank. I have a couple sets of 48 inch VHO lighting when my 90 was running. I'll have to cut the reflector down if I use them, but I might end up getting a MH setup. I'm still weeks away from even starting to build my canopy. That's good though because it forces me to take it slow with stocking the tank. I have a few frags in the tank and a chalk basslet.

My main goal at this point is getting some live sand from other reefers and getting the sandbed going.

Question for all (I know I've already asked a bunch) - What type of sand are you using and what depth? Are you using Live Sand, Live with Southdown, etc?

I'm planning on using a 3 inch bed of Southdown seeded with live sand and about 90lbs of Indo or Fiji live rock.

Thanks!

I cant remember what sand i got exactly though i can tell you that i only put a 30 pound bag in the tank(this stuff is very very fine ). I basically put all the sand in the front 3/5 of the tank and the back of the tank i filled with smashed up LR from the bottom of the LR vats at work. I'd say the depth of the sand at the front of the tank is about an inch or so.

czieler - Tanks looking good! What is that coral above your clownfish on the right side of the tank. Also, can you share some more details on your setup?

Sure ... sry... I posted that while working today the coral is a Toadstool Leather ... it started out pretty about an inch wide, and has grown nicely over the last six months.

It's a 65 tall... or course

I have a CoralLife protein skimmer on it, as well as a maxi jet pump on the other side. I've thought about putting a sump or refugium under the stand...but I've promised my significant other a new bedroom suite before I spend more money on 'fish stuff'... heh. Well..that...and I have no idea how to put one on ( when I get around to it, I'll get Rob from robsreef to help me out with it )

I have quite a bit of Live Rock in there...

Inhabitants:
2 False Percs
Foxface Tang
Valentini Puffer
Green Spotted Puffer
Royal Gramma
Target Mandarin
Dragonette Mandarin
2 Cleaner Shrimp
Turbo Snail
Misc. snails and crabs
1 Orange Linkia
2 Red/White serpent star fish
1 Red Flower Anemone
1 LT anemone (not doing well at the moment)
1 small bubble tip anemone
1 Florida condi anemone
2 Frogspawns
2 Hammer Corals
1 Toadstool Leathers
Green Star Polyp colony
Sun Coral
Misc. Zoo frags
Galaxea Frag
Colt Coral frag
Purple Mushrooms
