Hi Iwan

I notice that my skimmer bubbles drops down after dosing booster - I guess because of the fat content and returns to normal by the next morning - do you get this effect?

I am still waiting on my ZEO reactor to be made. After it is made, it will be shipped to me with the basic 4 along with CV and AAHC, which I will start dosing immediately with the basic 4. I will update my thread over on the other board with progress.

Nobody knows what exactly the zeolites are for. I don't think they remove ALL NH3 because there is very slow flow through the reactor, so some of the NH3 is being synthesized in the water column and on the other surfaces where bacteria is present. In fact, the reduction of nutrients becomes even more efficient when the reactor is on an on/off cycle every 3 hours. My "guess" is that the zeolites help attract NH3 to the bacteria that is on the stones, which helps draw more NH3 to them to feed on. I agree that the release of the mulm has a 2-fold effect where it puts more bacteria in the water column to work. This bacteria will also attach to other parts of the tank. What doesn't attach will be skimmed out, which will directly export what that bacteria has fed on. The mulm also acts as a highly nutritious food source for the corals.

I also know this effect.
I turn my skimmer off after the bonus for 15 minutes and reduce the performance after that for some hours.
With this method the amino acids can develop their effect and aren't removed immediately by the skimmer.

There is a bacteria product from Canada called reefresh. it's available at polyplab.com

i've used their reef-roids product for a couple months with wicked results but i've only just started using their bacterial product. the few people i've talked to who tested out the product say it's phenomenal.

Water has DEFINITELY cleared up. i don't have a phosphate test kit that will test low enough to see what my exact phosphate is but I'm hoping it will colour up my SPS

ReefCentral is against any vendor or employee hiding their identity to promote their products on our, or any other bulletin board. This is unethical behavior.

A 80w T5 bulb is 140cm or 57 inches long.

Unfortunately, I know the online store's badly in the USA.
But you need 2 80 watts of lightings to cover the length of 125 inches.
The number bulbs orientates itself after the width. I recommend planning a bulb per 2.5 inches.

I was on RC last night.And came across a thread about URI bulbs.They are coming out in about 2 months.With their version of the T/5 bulbs.Especially for the ones looking for length.Not sure what their length will be?But you might take a look and see,what's coming on the scene in the next few months.Just wanted to pass this on here.I'm sure and email to them,could answer your question for you and others here.

If you are talking about the standard 80w (not overdriven on IceCaps) then they are 60"... If you run a 48" (54w) on an IceCap ballast then you will overdrive them to about 80w... Same goes for the 60" 80w running on an IceCap ballast, you will get around 120w or so I think...

As far as I know the T5's only come in the following :

24" (24w)
36" (39w)
48" (54w)
60" (80w)

The T5's can be overdriven on IceCap ballasts to get about 1.5x more output, in doing so you will lessen the life of the bulbs...

24" (24w) * 1.5 = 36w
36" (39w) * 1.5 = 58w
48" (54w) * 1.5 = 80w
60" (80w) * 1.5 = 120w
