Octopus Skimmers....any comments???

Just ordered an Octopus skimmer (150) after doing some research here. Had the Turboflotor but the motor (rio) burned up...after researching that one I decided NO MORE RIO anything.
Hoping I made a farily good decision with the Octopus. On a bit of
a budget...looked at the goodies like Deltec. etc. but those are not in the budget at this time...Any comments/reviews would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Yeah, I love mine. Good price, well built and great performance.

I just bought a NW 200 and after I modded it, it has been working great so far!

I would suggest the gate valve mod, and also boring out the venturi. These two mods alone make a night and day difference!

Mesh Mod that bad boy and you'll REALLY love it.

There's an entire thread dedicated to modding them in the Equipment forum.

Right on, thanks for the replies. Glad that they are all positive.
I wasn't sure so I didn't go with the recirc model...maybe if I upgrade...Is there a big difference in the two??

Thanks again for the replies

Do you guys have the recirculating ones or just the nw?
I wasn't too happy with the stock rps-2000 (recirculating 150).
After a mesh mod it is a lot better.

I'm running the NW 150 stock, and I have to empty the cup every other day or it overflows stanky, coffee-looking skimmate. I'd be afraid to mod it and get more skimmate!

I purchased a NW-150 a little over a month ago. I currently use it on my 55 gallon, but plan on using it on my eventual upgrade (100 gallon). So far, it is working wonderfully and is very quiet. I haven't done any mods to it, but maybe I will once I get a larger bioload. Can't beat $150 for a great skimmer!

Great skimmer for the price. I have not done any mods to my NW-150 and it still pulls lots of nasty brown gunk.
