Nice colony. If you don't mind, how much did you pay?

Hi my name is Rob and I am addicted to reef buying. Hi Rob!

Admitting it is the first step.

Rob is far too impatient for Frags. He prefers to have a full colony.

I think the price is kinda high for a business that does not have a store front or minimal overhead? I've seen LFS sells about the same size for lower than that.

Given the size of that piece and the fact that a 1" frag will cost anywhere from $15-25 I am severely doubting you have seen them in LFS's for that price and that size.

Why do people have to be such haters? If your not comfortable paying that price then don't do it. If you are at a store and you have made comparable price comparisons and feel the need to pull the plug due to color, size, or whatever...do it. Regardless of storefront or not...the owner can make prices higher or lower depending upon what is moving. If a price is to high and it's sitting in a tank for awhile it's the owners fault. As a result, to slim down inventory he/she will reduce the cost if necessary. If someone feels as though they are getting a great deal...that's up to them. For someone that has only 5 posts it seems somewhat suspicious. That's just me

Evolley I agree with you. If someone wants to pay a price they feel fair then so be it. A 3 post wonder comes in and starts knocking another store it leads me to believe they are a member of RC that has been booted or a competing store employee. I also agree with the pricing on an item that has been sitting for a while.

Here...Here! You are exactly right.

If it's what I want and I have done some shopping around and the price is good, then who cares if it is a LFS or some guy selling it out of his bathtub.

I read all that posting by Canar...a birdsnest that color, 3 times the size, for $10 more...quite honestly, I'd have to see it to believe it, and if it does exist he got the deal of the millenium.

Nice find, great shape and color. I agree with Evolley1, it's a little much for a basement hobbiest though.

I will post a picture tonight so people can see cuz it is a cool colony. It is not the deal of the century though.

Doesn't all of this just come down to peoples opinions?

Everyone has gone to different stores shopping for coral, fish, etc. Even the day you go to a store can yield a different experience. Different person working, selection limited due to all to good stuff purchased already, technical difficulty with their system, etc. Everyone is willing to drive different distances too.

I have hit most of the stores on the list at the top of this forum at least twice. Many I have been to 20-30 times. I can give you my opinion on any of them. If I see a thread that is on a store that I have been to I may give my opinion on it. If you do not like it please ignore it. If you want to flame me for my opinion have at it.

The whole point to why I do this is to help people realize what is out there. We have a lot of good LFS's in the Chicago metro area.

There's a lot more to a price than just what some joe shmoe thinks a coral is worth. I think that is a fantastic colony for $75. I don't know where you would find pieces that size for a consistently low price. I don't know why people are dogging this Reef Depot guy for running a place out of his basement. This is like the third or fourth post where someone has had something negative to say just about the way he has decided to set up his business. I despise the term, but all you critics are haters. Everyone ought to be able to make a living doing something they love and if you people don't have the drive or smarts to do it then keep your mouths shut. Thats all, it was just irking me a little.

Uh what!

I've mailed ordered pieces half that size for $65 and had to pay for shipping and had to assume all the risk of shipping a coral half way across the country. And then had to acclimate the piece to real water not the low specific gravity water you would find at LFS like Living Sea.

First off, I don't know the guys that run RD and have never been there or purchased anything from them. But, I do know close friends that own legit business that their profits are hurt everytime someone wants to open a store out of a basement. There is usually no overhead and no tax ID # involved with so called businesses that are running out their homes. Again this is not against RD and I am unaware of what they have setup. But I do know the base cost of such coral colonies when it comes from distributers and these guys are making $ and possibly illegally.

Has anyone payed to the name Reef Depot yet? I don't mean cash or paypal, I am talking about direct creditcard transaction or a personal check made out to Reef Depot.

Hoosier Pat, this is why stores like my buddies store in Highland, IN that often has to raise prices just to stay in business.

Its stores like Reef Depot that keep us in less expensive corals. Why imply that they are running their business illegally? Let them run their business the way they want and let us reap the benefits of their inexpensive corals. Small enterprise is one of the things that makes America free. Dont shop there.
