I just purchased the test kit, although that doesn't say anything about the age.
I tested the NSW and it read 0ppm.

I went to the LFS today and had a bottle of AZNO3 in my hand... until I remembered this thread. I left the store with a bag of Caulerpa..

Then you clearly have an insane nitrate issue. Good thing its only a FOWLR.

On my 100 gal FOWLR i find its always difficult to get the nitrates down and keep them down. I just do my regular bi weekly water change of about 40-45 gallons. Im also using the worst skimmer ever, and the tank isnt RR.

Have you added a fuge on this system ?

I have cheato growing in the sump and since I have left the light on 24/7 it has been growing nicely, but I don't even think its making a dent into the nitrate levels.

I was wondering what if the NO3z stuff is actually working, but thr levels are too high to notice a difference?

Well, a 50% waterchange is guaranteed to drop your levels by 50% in the short term. A couple large, back-to-back changes should drop your levels quite a bit.

50%, 50%, even if your nitrates were > 500ppm, they'd be down to 120-140 after the changes (assuming you don't have some huge nitrate source, like a whole sandbed of rotting fish waste)

I would change around 200 of those 210 gallons that will eliminate a decent part of that nitrate problem and as long as you match ph and temp pretty close you shouldn't have problems.

I am ordering the water through the guy who takes it from scripts. $105 for 300 gallons. He told me I can drain my tank out in 150g increments and then he will refill it.

I changed 100% of my water and my nitrates climbed back to 150 within 2 months. There is always a reason why your nitrates are high. My nitrates are high because of the high bioload of fish and I feed them alot. I have a refugium as well and its not working as well.

Ive been reading up on sulphur denitrators and this is likely the route I will be going after the holidays. You dont have to feed a sulphur denitrator unlike coil denitrators. Also sulphur denitrators are used in large public aquariums in Europe. With a large enough unit it can keep your nitrates in the single digits.

the problem with sulphur denitrators is that they smell.

but please keep me informed on what route you take and the outcome.

Mine nitrates are high bc my skimmer was not properly working for about a year in combo with heavy feeding. I eventually plan on having a large bioload and setting myself up for the same problems down the line. Which is why a way to control nitrates is going to be very important.

I think it smells when its not working such as getting clogged. I ordered a gallon worth of sulphur beads for my denitrator and when I opened it and took a strong whiff it had a very faint sulphur smell. My skimmate smells 10x worse

All you have to do is read carefully and you may see hints of why it's different ... the skimmer probably accounts for a lot, but this probably doesn't encourage 'success' either:

If you have it set-up correctly, it DOES NOT smell.

Similar to the osmolator and the "used skimmer" that you claimed were crap and turned out to be working just fine, I would go back and check your methodologies to see if you weren't missing something.

ok, that is the 2nd time you have said this...your point is?

btw, while the osmolator works and makes my life a lot easier, it is still a pos that was designed by 3rd graders.

I don't have a sulfur denitrator and I am not against trying it out. But, from the research I have done the most common complaint, besides it not reducing nitrates, is that it smelled and released the smell in the room. Then again, I'm sure it's a natural odor for you.

Whatever bro.

You already got one person banned and I'm not about to play that game.

My point is that your failure might be caused by something other than the equipment and the incompetence of 3rd graders.

AZNO3 obviously worked for others, and you'd probably obtain better result by going back to the first page and do some more tweaking. Maybe feed 5 cubes everyday instead of 10 cubes every other day.
