lokani is browning out

I don't know why my Lokani is browning out. It went from being a gorgeous deep purple to brown with a hint of purple in the tip.

My urchin has picked this frag up 2 times and dragged it around the tanks for a while. Could this be the reason?

I have other acroporas (green highlighter humilis, deep blue tenuis, yellow acro, chips acro, and a Roscoe's, 2 bridsnest) that are doing just fine. I have them under 250w mh with 4 t5's.

The only thing I can think of is that the lokani does not do well with alcohol (roommates had a party when I was gone...long story and not a happy one).
Otherwise all params are good.

pH 8.2
Amonia, Nitrites, Nitrates are all 0
Calcium is up around 400
Magnesium is 1500
Alk is 3.5
SG is 1.025

My curiosity is peaked, alcohol??? Did it end up in the tank somehow? I agree about the urchin taking it around the tank. I have had corals doing well then I move them and bam they either brown out or die, conversely some not doing so well get moved and perk up. But traveling by urchin back is definately not a good thing. My 30k lokani has really held its colors. I have it set off to the far side of the tank, in the back, with low flow for now (temporary condition) 1/2 way up in the tank. I would try and glue that piece down so the urchin cannot get it and take it for a ride and see what happens over the next few months.

i have moved the piece of coral to a lower flow area away from the urchins reach. I dont know for sure what was put into my tank, but my roommates had a party while i was away and when i came back the same day the tank was milky white and the skimmer was producing 2 cups of skimmer per day. I am assuming alcohol or some other foreign substance.

Glue or epoxy that piece down. The lokani is such a gorgeous coral and the urchin's giving it a ride round the tank is nice but....

I do have a sump. Why is my coral browning? No bioballs or filter sock to act as a nitrate trap so I dont know where the relation is there???

Is the solution to this problem that obvious?? (my assumption for the scar is probably a metaphor to beating his head against the wall meaning it is a repetitive problem, or maybe he cant figure out why his corals are doing this either??)

Not sure what you are getting at with this statement???

I think the reason behind the lokani browing out or being stressed to the point of it browning is due to the urchin moving it around like it has done. The coral needed to be put in place and if doing good in that placement then it needed to be epoxied down or glued so it could begin to grow.

I agree! I have mine up high in the tank under 250's and in a good amount of random flow. Mine is one of the fastest growers in my tank and it's got awesome color as well. But it did take a bit to find where it was happy, then I stuck it down there.

Mine has always had great color too. I think I placed it mid tank for a week and then moved it up to the top third of my rock structure and it's never been moved since. It's inder a 250w 10k reeflux and it must just love being there.
