kamla, i have some of those magnets that joncat24 is talking about..they are shockingly strong..they work great on my 90 gal ( prob 1/2 or 5/8 inch glass). they are so strong that when i was not being careful, i had a magnet in each hand and i got them too close and my hands crashed together..it hurt! another time i place two too close together on a table and they flew together - one shattered..they are cool magnets, i'll get them again..

They are wicked strong...can't hardly get em apart. I use them on my 180 with no problems at all. And the epoxy coating is nice and thick. They are worth the extra $$$

Re: Where to Buy magnets for DIY mounts

http://www.magnet4less.com/NB025.html

I used two of these for mounts - very strong
Warning be careful with these types of magnets. They are stronger than you can imagine – getting a piece of flesh between them is like getting a finger caught in a vice grip. Also – if they get wet they corrode big time.

I got epoxy from here http://www.jgreer.com./ I also bought the gunk to change the color. This guy is also good to talk to on the phone for help.

A link for a DIY project.

I made a few for my maxi jets and a couple of maxi mods. I have two mods in my tank plus 4 maxis.
I hate having my maxis hanging and wanted the freedom to put them anywhere at any height – so this worked well.

Also – since you are making a mess already – you can make a dandy feeding clip for tangs. This way you don’t have to get your hands wet and don’t have to rely on a suction cup.

Also also – I make a couple of mini frag racks that I keep on the side of my tank for new coral and recent frags.

Advice - - if you put an anchor for the pump in the resin with the mag be very very very careful to ensure that the mag is totally encased in the resin before you set in an anchor. If the anchor touches the mag you can be assured that a tiny bit of water and salt will get to the mag and begin to corrode. It will expand and make a mess of your hard work.

Have fun and good luck.
