This is part of a tank downgrade from a 100 to a 25. I have had them for almost two years and they fire up like champs. I am not sure what brand the ballasts are, I bought them from a LFS, and of course that says nothing, but I have never had a problem with them. The ballasts are both electronic. The bulbs I *think* are Reef Lux 12K. They are 12K for sure, just not sure on the brand, but they are a brand name (when you go away from the brand names, you tend to get bulbs that are not as consistant, IMO). The bulbs have never been touched by hands, I have always used a paper towel. I think the reflectors are spiders, they are metal, and could use a good cleaning. Both are ready to plug and play. good price, had question. Are you not suppose to touch the bulbs with your hands?

NO!!! The oils from your hands cause the "life" of the bulb to shorten. Something about the heat transfer on the surface of the bulb.

Exactly, I have not heard anyting about other bulbs, but for MH, dont touch the bulbs with your hands.

Does this light need a UV filter? And second question, what is the length of the reflector?

These are mogal based, not HQI, so no UV filter will be needed. Each reflector is about 14 inches long.

from what i remember its ok to touch the bulb because it is not like hqi and already has a protective cover "the bulb"

Just to clarify, is it two (2) sets of 175w ballasts, spider reflectors, 12k bulb and mogul socket for $225 or is it $225 each set shipped?

Hmmmm, I didnt get an e-mail from RC that there was a post. It is two of everything shipped. I could have included the other stuff in the pic, but then the pic would have been a little bit wider that it is. So you could put this over something like a 60 and have good coverage on both ends.
