Snowflake eel and ghost eel in 55 Gallon tank no problem but the ability to escape is always possible.

Have had a snowflake get out of the display tank twice, and a chain link escape a qt tank. Both tanks were covered. Unfortunately the chain link died. You will need a tightly covered tank.

All eels can go carpet surfing. You need a cover, and even then it's not a guarantee. I had a snake eel go tail first down the sump return line.

yeah always have a tight lid. not one that you just place down, but one that is actually fastened down and has no holes in it. Unless it's a mesh. I actually think a mesh lid would be best. I always put a mesh fencing around all my intakes.

when i got my eel the store owner was worning me about them escaping. he was telling me how one of his friends' eels slide though the slits of his over flow and the a few days later got stuck in the pump, killing himself and the pump. that's another thing to consider when purchasing an eel "will it fit between the slits of my overflow?"
