I bought a 90 from a guy that had put an epoxy/sand bed in the tank. I don't know how long it had been in there, but when I went to clean the tank I noticed the sandbed starting to lift. So I inspected it more, and it had grabbed the silicone in some places and started to pull it away from the glass. I ended up having to take the faux bed out, cutting away all of the silicone in the tank and re-filleting the seams of the whole tank and overflow. It was a real PITA.

The good part was that the faux bed came out in one nice solid chunk. I cut 1/4 inch off of the front and side with the table saw, and slipped it back in the tank after I resealed. The faux bed is now just sitting in the bottom, sort of like a floating floor in your house.

So based on my experience, If I were to make one, I would make myself a mold for the epoxy instead of making the faux bed in the tank itself.

It sure does look nice though.

sorry, no pics of the rebuild, and no pics offhand where you can see the faux bed. I'll try to get something.
