February Meeting

Apparently, the February meeting is on the 17th at Mel's house in West Knoxville at a time TBA. I'll update the website to reflect this and to add the directions once we are closer to the date.

Please post the discussion on food and the topic and the like here.

Didn't we decide the topic would be skimmers and mods??? And I vote for those double or triple chocolate cookies Mel made... Oh, and the pestachio (sp?) ones she promised... lol

Hah hah...ok Randy...I'll make those two kinds of cookies.

BUT...keep in mind instead of making the chocloate ones, I could make chocolate espresso snowcaps (a very dark chocolate cookie with espresso in it that is coated in powdered sugar). Not super sweet but really really good.

So yeah...skimmer mods and skimmers.

Anyone want to talk about the different types of skimmers?

Then someone want to discuss the mods you can make to them?

Anyone willing to help me mod my skimmer pump? *cough* *Dave* *cough*

I am interested in buying one for my 125g... what do you think about MRC skimmers? Is Aquarium a good place to buy one?

I can bring my DIY "Euro-skimmer" and describe how it works. I just replaced it with a better one, but it could display the concept, anyway.

@Tiberiusjones: I like to encourage support of the local stores as much as possible, but I'd have to say your best bet for a skimmer would be on RC in the used equipment section or mail order from some place like Drs. Foster & Smith or some other vendor on the Sponsor link for RC. If you do a Drs. Foster & Smith order, let me know -- I could use some dry goods, too.

I bought mine from Custom Aquatic online...it's an ASM g4X.

MRC skimmers are pretty good I hear. A couple of people in the club have them I believe.

I don't believe we are discussing food...*taps foot*

Coming down with something Mel? Lot of coughing lately
Nothing a few cookies wouldn't help *cough*

Skimmers and skimmer mods sound like a great topic, it's been a while since the meeting we last discussed skimmers in-depth. I might try to gather all the materials (+ a new ASM skimmer) so we can play with some of the mods.

tiberius -- I have a couple of Precision Marine skimmers (MRC is similar in that they are both beckett-style skimmers). I like them, but they do require a larger pump and a little bit more "tuning" than do Euroreef-type skimmers like the ASM, but both can be made to work well--I guess we can discuss and share experiences at the meeting as well.

So, what about food? What themes have we missed lately?...

I'm placing a fosters/smith dry goods order tomorrow if anyone wants in. You'll need to meet me somewhere next w/e, though, to p/u. As long as it's not a huge order, I can cover about $100 w/o prepayment, but if you want in and are at the swap, I would appreciate payment for your order there. Just figure 10% for shipping, I'll prorate once the order is finalized and bill you or refund you accordingly. Thanks.

Dave

Looks like the February meeting has hijacked another thread. Here is the link:

http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...02#post9118702

It is easier for me to do this than to update the website to include the other thread.

BTW, I can't make the February meeting due to a conflict.

I ordered a skimmer to use as a demo, but it's on backorder...I feel like my life's on backorder sometimes so maybe we can just discuss and mod Mel's...

I think I might be able to make this one! We are going to GA for lure coursing Saturday night, but, that will be the evening. Cinnamon will be running and Dottie will get to do the puppy races.

What can I bring?

What time will it be?

It's still going to be cold in a couple of weeks....what about if I make a giant batch of that white chili that Graham made for us a fwe years back?

He gave me the recipe and we've been making it ever since.

It's a chicken/monterrey jack/jalapeno/white bean chili and it totally rocks. Would that be good with everyone?

Julie...sorry I haven't answered your post here...I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what to make as the main dish. You can bring anything southwestern-ish...or anything you want at all!!

Cornbread? Cornbread anyone?

oh and Randy, WTH does your signature mean?
