I am looking at modded mj's for my 55 also and while one 1200 will suffice i am actually considering 2 on a wave maker so that only one is running at any given time and that flow stays very varied in the tank
that or perhaps i may go with two hydor koralia's and then later add larger prop to them to give them a boost and once its figured out what wavemaker they will run with go that way |

I have a 900 mod with two 1200 straights in my 55, and it is way more than enough. Mine are on a wavemaker, I really think a modded out 1200 would be too much.

I have one 1200 in my 75 and it creates plenty of flow. I can use another small pump on the opposite side of the tank but right now it creates enought flow. I would say get 2 900's or 2 1200's depending on the corals you want to keep. They are very strong after you mod them and they are better for me since i am a poor teenager trying to get by in an expensive hobby.

I have two MJ 1200's on my 55g. I guess they are modded (I cut the return tubes off). They are on a wavemaker running at 15 min each and they have been doing great for the past year or so since they were installed. I first thought it was too much for the corals but now I can't imagine going with any less flow. I have mostly softies with a couple SPS.

1 high flow as long as you have a lot of rock. I have a 58 gallon which is a 55 with a corner overflow and is a little taller. The mj 1200 modden along with a mag 7 return pump is tons of flow.
