Need help planning out water flow rate and more
Hi!
I set up my flow this way.. Please try and understand My question is should I add another powerhead to get more flow in the tank? Should I move around the powerheads? How about a UV? Where should I place it? I will be getting mine in a week or so and wanted to know where would be the best place to have it hanging on somewhere with a powerhead especially for it. I don't have a sump, only a a trinkle ontop type of filter and a canister on the bottom. By the way is my lighting ok? (for less required light corals, not sps etc) T8 - Blue 36W Sylvannia T8 - White 10000K 40W Jebo T5 - Actinic Blue 54W Sylvannia T5 - White 54W Aquamedic I think thats it. Thanks, Guy |

Well your flow rate is just slightly over 10x so it depends on the species you want to keep. Also I noticed, no skimmer... any reason? In addition the canister might be a nitrate trap in the future but for now it might be assisting the biological establishment of the tank.
Ok, back to flow. Your flow direction is ok, but I would look to have a 'current intersection point' where powerheads are pointed at each other to cause random currents. Right now you might have a bit of whirlpooling and a static current flow. Anycase, nice aquascaping

Thanks for the answer!
I do have a skimmer, it's next to the heater (says HOB skimmer, see? ) Maybe I should have another 500 gph powerhead aiming in the middle back of the tank so that the flow runs into the one on the right side then? Guy By the way, if all I have in the canister is rowaphos and carbon and some rocks with no sponges and the other filter on top are working then I'm pretty sure i won't have any nitrate explosions, no? |
