A cheap counter current skimmer that sits in the tank with a limewood airstone works better than the fission.

Reports are that this one actually works quite well. They make one that fits in the NC,BC and AP

I use the Tunze 9002 nanoskimmer in my 29 Gallon biocube. It is amazing. I have tried all the mine skimmers & if you want one to actually work for your NC then dont waste your time on anything but the sapphire.

My sapphire defiantly pulls out stuff. I clean the cup bout every three days. It took about 2 weeks to fully "break-in" but it does well now. I still change about 4 gals. of water per week. I do not have LR rubble in the chamber since the skimmer takes up all the room. That's the only draw back I guess.

Irac... did you do anything for a fuge? I turned in my chamber 1 into a fuge & use a coralife 18watt light.

I don't have one anymore. We'll see if need one down the road. Maybe I'll do a hang on type. I made a hole in Ch. 1 and have my heater in there. I use an old BC filter media insert and add my own filter media to catch debri. Skimmer in chamber 2 and a small bag of carbon where the original sponge would sit in front of the return pump.

Sinful--- Not too much as you don't hear much of anything once the fans kick on with the lights.

Could you break down for me (newbie here) what you did to make chamber one a fuge? and any other mods you have made to your bc29?

Thanks

For the BC29 I removed all the bioballs from chamber 2. I purchased a Sapphire BC29 skimmer and it is made for that chamber. Been going a week and it does a good job. I get about a cup full every day. Very quiet.
