powder brown tang

hi...

im intrested in a powder brown i have a regal and a yellow tang, are these fish hardy.

from what i have heard they are a pain in the arse to keep... harder to keep than powder blues, very susceptible to ich, but if anyone here has one and has a different opinion go for it :P

maybe have a look at online fish stores like marinecenter.com and liveaquaria.com see what they say.

Make sure you have a very good UV sterilizer, before getting the powder brown tang.
Often the whitecheek tangs are listed as powder brown tangs. White cheeks are much more hardy.

Many people have had success with them. Are they hardy? In a word...no.

yes def. not a hardy fish. a fish you for sure need to QT. also what size tank are you contemplating putting them in.

IME, they are slightly hardier than powder blues. Just as susceptible to disease but they eat prepared food more readily.

etech, yours is the Acanthurus japonicus, the hardy variety.


Acanthurus nigricans is the more delicate variety.
