hey, is that a 1260 water pump version, or a 1260 with the special volute? Did you read in the thread where the 1260 WPV will not work with that standard volute?

i just have the standard 1260. so it sounds like i will need the volute and impeller to upgrade my pump?

Rich, I think you are talking about using basic spectroscopy here. It will give the % transparency of a sloution. I have considered it and may do this, but I'm not sure it is necessary. It would be a guage to measure the wet vs dark skimming.
However, if one skimmer produces more skimmate by volume, but after dehydration the measured weight is less, then wouldn't I be able to claim that this skimmer was running wet compared to the other and the end result would be that it removed less particulate matter by weight? What do you think? I like the idea, but would have to rely on outside sources to measure the product and I can not vouch for accuracy or the methods employed. If the above former information is a valid means of measuring skimmate matter then spectroscopy is not necessary. My only concern is that if some organics dissolve or evaporate in the process of dehydration, then this may effect weights and spectroscopy now becomes necessary.

Wouldn't a dehydrated wet skim have more solids than a dehydrated dry skim because of the salt content? Is there a way to account for that?
An RS180 would be interesting to throw in the mix to see how a non-recirc compares.

Good point here. I think you could be right. I'm not sure that spectrometery will catch this either. So, I am planning to run each skimmer to its optimal performance to pull a semi-dry foam as I have always prefered to collect. Then, test that.

RC 500
Here are the first pics of my RC500 It has been running a week or so. It is set up in a temp sump beside my stand. I cleaned the collection cup this morning so I can post some progress pics. So far I love it. It is skimming pretty wet, I've never seen so many solids skimmed out before.

Great skimmer!! The three pumps look great. I just purchased two 1260's for my closed loop systems.

didnt read through the whole thread but after seeing pics of the venturi i see the problem. most all ppl make venturis like that i i feel they are freaking dumb for making them like that. when you build a venturi you want the air inlet inbetween the inlet of the pump and the restriction of the venturi part. this way when the pump see's the restriction it pulls in air to compensate for the difference. most all mfg make the venturi like the one in the picture. i tested the one from gen x, looks just like the ER one, it pulled half the air that a simple venturi that i made using the ball valve method. i did all my calcs with a flow meter. btw i did got my gen x 2400 to pull 10lpm @ 20w

ahenson - "Skimmate of the Day" thread is hungry for a new submission - I'm sure that by tomorrow morning, you will have a nice pic opportunity....

What is the size of the neck inside the skimmer cup ?
Looks a little to small for three Eheims . You have a build up to far down the neck and you said is skimming wet ![]() Very nice skimmer by the way .

Thanks guys it is a 12" collection cup and It's been pulling a half inch or so a day. I have a 170 so it's way oversized. No complaints, best skimmer I've had yet.

That's just yellow foam and the angle of the light. I cleaned it recent. I'll post a pic tomorrow. I'm sure I don't have it adjusted perfect, I've been gone alot. I'll measure the neck tomorrow. It's late.

ER website shows neck as 5.5"
Any idea what the similar Deltec and H&S neck diameters are? The closest models would be the Deltec AP703 and the H&S A300-3x1260 Nice skimmer! Yeah, a bit overkill for a 170G.

Also the AP702 with twin 1260's Eheims has 5.5" neck.

That is also known and posted already. The info we were looking for is the diameter of the neck of the Deltec AP703
