29 Gallon Bio Cube Problem

I am having problems with the water coming into the filter area not keeping up with the pump.

When i have my filter in the system the flow of incoming water doesnt keep up (even though i widened the opening from chamber 1 to 2).

would a pump like the maxijet 900 or 1200 fix this?
or should i not use the filter and turn that area into a refigium? (i am a n00b and have no clue how to do this)

I'm an idiot, ive got it working now. But if anyone has any ideas on how a refugium should be setup, that would be a great help.

The tunze nano skimmer fits in the bioball area......just though I let you know
