I was about 4 or 5 ish and mad at the world and Mom for something and announced I was leaving. Mom got out her biggest hard sided samsonite suitcase, set it on my bed and helped me pack. Clothes, socks, underware, toothbrush, toothpaste, a few toys, then down to the kitchen she made me 3 PB&J sandwiches I ate one and packed the others. She carried the suitcase out the door, down the walkway, down the driveway to the gravel road right by our mailbox, put my little paw on the suitcase handle, gave me a kiss and said she would miss me, but if I really wanted to go, that I should have a nice life. She got into her car and drove off. I drug that heavy arsed suitcase for an hour, I might have made 200 yards, opened it up ate a sandwich and went home. Years later she told me she went to the top of a hill a 1/4 mile away and watched my every step, she knew I had to decide on my stay/come back, teling me not to leave would NEVER work.
She was right, darn know it all!

Yup...me and some buddies decided we were going to live along the river. We could fish for our food, do what we want, etc. We floated about 5 miles downriver on tubes before deciding that this was maybe a bad idea. Caught a ride home and thought we were home free...but my folks found out about that one. I didn't sit for a week I think I was 8 at the time...

yep, I was 9. Mom packed my bags, Pop even held the door for me...big mistake - they found my bag at the end of the road and me two days later in Pennsylvania(we lived in Wheaton, MD).
The bag was too heavy, so I left it and actually hopped a freight train(it had stopped for some reason or another) Pop was MAD - he claims letting me go was all my Mom's idea - Pop says she shoulda known better with the stubborness of the males in our family.

I didn't have to run away, just came back from school one day and my parents had moved. I'd been wondering what the sign in the front yard was for.

I made it to the edge of the property before mom ran out with a wooden spoon (later replaced by the plastic spatula) and pretty much paddled me back into the house. I was around 7 or 8 and had one days clothes packed in a paper grocery bag.
I love you mom! |

Haha this is funny you guys were young!!
I was 14. decided I was having a party. Parents have 5 acres. Everyones parents dropped my friends off at my house. we started a nice big fire. tunes. ciggerettes.. after 15 or so people came to 'camp out' my parents made everyone call theyre parents to come get them. I was so mad. My best friends boyfriend convinced me what horrible parents I had for not letting me throw partys and he helped me run away... yeah... we lived 10 miles to the closest gas station!! Cops started circling, I jumped/fell over a gaurd rail and was busted!!! at the cop station i told my mom i wasent coming home unless i was aloud to smoke ciggerettes. Man... mom sure gets nice presents now days. what a horrible kid i was

When I was little the thought never even crossed my mind. But now as an adult I consider running away as adult all the time. Someplace tropical, with lots of sand and pina coldas. I could make money bartending in the caribeean watching sunsets and scuba diving every day.
Then reality hits.... Man I hate being an adult. |

I never ran away, but a neighbor of mine told me a story he swears is true...
His 5 or 6 year old daughter wanted to run away, so they helped her pack her bags and she went outside and stood crying at the street for about an hour because she wasn't allowed to cross the street alone! PRICELESS!
