I'm almost 100% sure it's a hamlet, but I couldn't tell you the species.

I don't think there is a hamlet with those colors.

My best guess is one of the perchlets (Plectranthias sp.).

Here is a link to some pics (good luck on that one, since there are only 501 known Serranids): http://www.fishbase.org/identificati...&spines=&fins=

i definitely think its a cephalopholis sp.
acts like my pollini & miniatus

also, the pletranthias are primarily hifins.
perchlets also dont change their colors (that ive seen)

i've a school of trimas & plectranthias, thats primarily why i dont think its a anthias

thanks for the input

im thinking (in common names) strawberry, tomato or maybe even the grail,... the golden (but i doubt it)(and not the leopard morph).

the color of the body & the comletely yellow fins are too cool on this fish.

thanks for checking on this thread...

It could be, but you never provided a scale for the size of the fish. Tiny C. miniata are very similar, lacking any spots. Oh, BTW perchlets (and most fish, for that matter) can indeed change color to a degree. Also, there are several similar looking species that do not possess high fins. If you say it behaves more similarly to the Cephalopholis, then I would wager that it is a juvenile C. miniata (especially now that I saw the pic with the stripes).

I was looking though my books and came across mycteroperca tigris. It says that they have a bright red morf. Check the # of stripes the tigers have nine of them.
