What size Maxi-Jet powerhead for my tank ?

I am looking to replace all of my Rio powerheads with maxijets . I have 3 Rio 600s for flow in my tank . I would like to cut that down to two if possible .

So what size and how many would be the best for a 36" X 28" X 24" tank ?

I am new to the MJs so I dont know much about them . I have been using the same Rio 600s since 1998 and I am sure my luck is running out with them !

Thanks for the info !

Joe

i would get 2 modded 1200 (stream type), and that should be more than enough

while I love the things,

That a jump from about 600gph to roughly 5000.

900s are the best deal, 8w for 220gph as opposed to 20w for 290gph.

1 900 would be more then enough flow, on my 100g 5' long a 900 gets flow to the other side without a sandstorm 2 is perfect.

1 1200 in my tank digs the sand up on the far side of the tank

if your going bb then 1200,s are fine

try 1 900 first if thats not enough you can always get another

if you get the kit make sure you get the deluxe kit and youll have 100% chance of success

I was thinking about doing the 900 after reading up on the mods . It sounds like you can get alot of power out of those PHs with the mods . I just can't imagine just one PH in my tank ! WOW !

I will definitely try just one and see how it works . If that works I will save electricity over the 3 PHs I have now . I know its just pennies but every little bit helps on reef tanks .

Thanks for all of the replies !

Are you planning on kepping SPS corals? If so, you may want to consider 3 900 MJ mods. Just my .02 cents!!
