Iwasaki EYE 50000K Bulb

Anybody use the 150W DE version of this bulb on an electronic or HQI ballast? Just wondering how the colors of Acros keep under this bulb if they're kept real high, about 8 inches from the bulb. Also, how is the color of this bulb?

I'm re-doing a 25 tall and instead of paying the high power bills all year round, have decided to go with a 150W and keep Acros near the top only.

That is just what the mfg. called it; it is more like a 14k supposedly.

I've never seen one myself though.

I've used Iwasaki's 150W 50000K bulb before, but mine is single-ended, not double ended. I didn't know they made a DE version - mind sharing your source?

It's a very nice color, I use one 150W single end over my 40 hex.

A bit more purple than a 400W radium imo, just slightly. I really like the way it looks, and I have SPS growing under it, although they are very near the surface.

Oh gosh - that tank is really dirty right now. I'd be too embarrassed to post a pic. Let me do a water change today and I'll snap a picture of it tomorrow.

FWIW, it's a 15G nano and the saki bulb is at least a couple of years old. There are also a pair of 18" VHO actinics on it. The only "sps" in it is Turbinaria reniformis. Other inhabitants are Favia, Caulastrea, Blastomussa, Scolymia, Euphyllia and some zoanthids. There's no skimmer on the tank and I don't do enough water changes to keep acros.

Do you think the PAR is sufficient for good Acro growth?

Sanjay does have some PPFD data for the double ended bulbs, but no results for the single ended bulbs.
