DIY skimmer?

What do you think I should do? Hook a sedra needle wheel pump into my berlin triple bypass skimmer that is just laying around (would make the output controlled by a gate valve) , or make a DIY euro-reef style skimmer? If you say DIY Euroreef, then please ho0k me up with a link to a good plan!!~! TIA.
