Ok, I jsut got my my reef devil (used) and I have a few questions. What holds the injector aseembly into the downdraft stack? Is there an o-ring between the injector and the stack? Is anyone using theres with a mag 7? IS there a huge improvement over the CA 1800?

Question for the 750/800 users. I bought mine used and it came with a Iwaki 40. To get it running within minutes I had a mag12 I hooked it up and let it run. It does well. My levels all test really good in the tank but since I haven't played with the different pumps, I'm not sure if I should get arouind to hooking up the 40, get a 55, or just leave as is with the mag12. Anyone out there experiment with the different ones and able to comment on the differences they noticed in quality/consistency/ets?

I am thinking about selling my ETSS 750....just curious how much you paid so I can get an idea of how much I could get for mine.

Thanks

I bought my 800 for 360 with the 40 pump. I "think" that was a good enough deal to try it out and see if I liked it. I figured if I didn't like it I could get close to that back. They guy who sold it to me will buy the pump back for 60 if I decide I need the 55 or if I stay with the mag12. Retail would be a tough price to swallow and I'd probably go with a G5 or 6 recirculating setup if paying 500+.

On my 800, I used a GenX Mak 4 and a Mag 12 but the Iwaki rlt55 works the best.

On my reef devil, I use an Ehiem 1260 and it works awsome.

thanks for letting me know. I am thinking about selling mine because I like the results of a recirc NW skimmer.

Is there something you dont like about the 800? or do you just like the nw more?

Thanks

I dont have anything against ETSS skimmers. Infact I think they are great. Thats why I got one. however that was 3 years ago. I have since used a smaller turbofloater modified for a NW on a smaller systems and really like the results I am getting. For my large systems I am thinking about getting somethign a little smaller then the ER 1000. Hopefully a Dart NW skimmer in the future. I like the ETSS 750, but I think NW skimmers have more benefits then a DD skimmer.

Hi,

anyone else have a ETSS 800 using a different pump than a Iwaki 40 or 55 and getting good results? My 55 works great I can never open the valve all the way. Trying to find something just as good or almost as good with less noise. Thx

young-d,

I also use a 55RLT on my 800.

Unless the pump impeller is really dirty or the skimmer needs its yearly cleaning I can't run the pump wide open without restricting the air inlets. I installed a gate valve on the pump to fine tune the water going into the skimmer, but I think that restricting the air works better.

This lets me fine tune the skimmer and I get about 4-6 cups of dark skimmate a week on a 175G bow as well.

If you have the room, try raising the skimmer body up and that should release the back presssure and allow you to run more flow thru the skimmer. I have heard that this works well.

My 800 dumped above the water line and I had no problem running wide open.

I actually had to shut the valve down to keep the water level up.
