PLC suggestions?

I was thinking of getting a PLC to contol my lights fans and pumps in my nano

I would need 2 inputs and about 8 outputs

nothing fancy and prefer something that is inexpensive and user friendly

any suggestions?

I haven't used them personally but automationdirect.com has some real cheap ~$100 new units. I was browsing through their catalog the other day and they have quite an extensive inventory.

I've been thinking about picking up one to try out.

I've used OMRON, NAIS, and AB personally - but programming SW can cost quite a bit. But a better chance to get a used unit.

You can get a basic cheap PLC from http://www.automationdirect.com
Its about $100 for the PLC and another $100 for the software.
As far as I know thats as cheap as you can get.

The Siemens S7-200 line of PLCs are probably the next best choice, a bit more pricey when compared to Automation Direct but very well supported both technically and with programming tools.

I am using a Siemens Logo PLC, I ts a good choice, cheap, easy to program and usefully for the operation that you need.
Do you need buy one, with PC Cable interface and use the Logo Confort Suite 5.0 that came with it, to programing the unit.
It has all basic, and complex functioanlity.
Try It , i have started with the basic function and now i am adding temp controler , wave maker.
If you prefer, you can download a Demo version of the software from www.Siemens.com , and this demo allow to you to simulate differents programs , with the restriction to transfert it to the logo unit. But anyway is just to test and confirm that it is usefully for you..

If you have any doubts pls, send me an email and i would help you...

These threads are great. I am no where near trying to run my tank with a PLC, but I have had the thoughts running in and out of my head several times. I wondered if anyone did this. Keep the discussion comming I will be watching.
